How long will the war for a look or an angry face take? What’s it like to be watched? What to do to detonate your emotions? Is it possible to freeze sinister gestures? How to spread the conflict letter by letter? Where do our borders run?
After a series of Saturday’s workshops, which took place in Świdnica for the last two months, it is time for the exhibition summarizing the process of dealing with the subject of conflict creatively. Artists, animators, educators invited to the project showed the participants of the project – by referring to the chosen issues – different ways of understanding the “war” slogan, as well as different methods of creative work.
The exhibition not only presents the results of the workshops, but also invites you to further explore the causes of tensions between people and how to resolve them without any violence. Children’s creative attempts became a starting point for their own reflections by the exhibition’s audiences, but they also show that often a (not so) little war takes place between the assumptions of the project and the real action. Assumptions, plans and ambitious goals can be spread over the blades by stomach flu, bad weather or a pair of scissors lost somewhere. The exhibition certainly does not cover all the threads of conflict, it is rather a sample of how to talk to children about conflicts. And it is obvious that it is necessary and worth to do so.
Apparently, there is a Danish saying that “conflict is a discussion that ends too early”. We hope that this exhibition will be an opportunity to talk, reflect and prevent situations of conflict at all. However, it is difficult to pretend that there are and will be no wars, so if they do happen, it is worth thinking about them as an opportunity to discover what is deeply hidden, shout out your needs, take care of your reasons and get to know others and yourself. After the war there comes a time for feeling harmony and peace.
